A Note from Corrine Kenner


My name is Corrine Kenner. I’m a writer, and I’ve always loved antiques.

Five years ago, I had the chance to buy a vintage shop in my neighborhood at a good price, I did. I used part of it as a writing studio and the rest as an income generator.

I’d never worked in a shop before, much less owned one, but I followed my heart. I envisioned a space that was part studio, part marketplace; a place where history meets creativity. Before I knew it, I was not just a writer, but a shop owner.

Despite having no prior experience in retail, I followed my heart into this new adventure. I curated collections, embraced advertising and social media, yet faced the all-too-common challenge of an antique shop: plenty of visitors, but few buyers.

Then, as if on cue, the world changed with the onset of COVID-19. Florida’s brief closure was a moment of reflection for me, a realization that I truly had nothing to lose.

It was then that I fully embraced the concept that every antique is, in a way, “haunted” by its past. These items endure because they were cherished. With this epiphany, I leaned hard into rebranding my shop into something more: a Haunted Antique Shop. This wasn’t just about selling antiques; it was about selling experiences, stories, and a connection to the past.

To my surprise, the concept of a haunted antique shop resonated more deeply with visitors than traditional antiques ever did. People were intrigued by the idea of walking through a door into a world where every item had a ghost story. I introduced tours highlighting the most fascinating pieces in my collection, and the response was overwhelming.

The shop became a destination, attracting everyone from senior citizens to teenagers. The shop drew couples on weekend dates, families on day trips, and paranormal investigators — and they were all willing to pay for the remarkable experience.

My journey with the Haunted Antique Shop came to an end recently when my landlord passed away, and I chose not to purchase the building I had been leasing. Now, as I focus on my writing instead, I’ve decided to share what I learned with other antique store owners who want to bring new life to their business.

My book isn’t just a guide; it’s a testament to the power of storytelling, creativity, and a little bit of the supernatural.
